Cleaning your Garden Daybeds and Sunloungers

To keep your garden lounger and outdoor daybed in tip-top shape, minimal cleaning and care are required.

How to Clean Aluminium and Rattan Style Garden Furniture

  • To give your furniture a refresh, use a soft brush lightly to remove any dust, debris and dirt and give your furniture a wash with soapy warm water only to prevent damage to the Aluminium.

  • Rinse to remove any soapy residue.

  • Wipe dry with a lint-free cloth.

  • Blot any spills or stains immediately and clean using soapy water.

  • Air dry thoroughly.

Never use cleaning solutions that contain harsh chemicals on your sun lounger, as these can damage the fabrics and frames. Avoid using a jet washer, abrasive pads or wire brushes that could damage the fibres of your fabrics.

How to Protect Your Garden Daybed or Lounger

Most of our classic designs, like our Lauren range and our Celia range, are made to be used all year round, but we recommend that you store your sun loungers away during long periods of non-use to keep them looking their best

How to Store Your Outdoor Furniture

We strongly recommend storing your daybeds and loungers away during the winter months to protect them from the elements.

  • Choose a dry location to store your patio daybed. A garage or a shed is ideal.

  • Use a premium-quality protective cover to prevent the buildup of dust or dirt.

  • Clean your loungers thoroughly before you store them.

  • Always ensure your furniture is completely dry before you store it away for the season.

Garden Daybeds and Loungers Care FAQs

Are Atkin and Thyme Loungers Weatherproof?

Yes, when you buy a stylish outdoor daybed or an outdoor lounger from us, you can rest assured that it can withstand summer showers and is designed to dry rapidly after rain. Our cushions are water repellent and are UV-resistant, so they won’t fade in the sun.

How to Avoid Mould?

Protecting your contemporary day beds and loungers from mould is easy. Use a breathable cover when your Atkin and Thyme loungers are not in use. This will prevent condensation from forming and moisture from becoming trapped in the fabrics and will prevent mould from forming. Ensure your furniture is stored in a dry place such as a garage or a shed. Lastly, always be sure to let your outdoor furniture dry thoroughly after cleaning. Weekly dusting can also help remove any debris that could become trapped and allow mould to form.

How to Avoid Rust?

An Atkin and Thyme outdoor daybed is crafted from powder-coated aluminium, which makes it resistant to rust. Although your outdoor furniture already has a protective coating against rust, you can take extra care to keep moisture away from the frames of your daybeds and loungers. If you wash your cushions, ensure they are laid to dry separately from the frame, because if you leave damp cushions to rest, rust can form on the frames. A breathable cover can also provide a strong defence against rust.

When Should I Bring My Loungers Inside?

We suggest bringing your loungers and daybeds inside anywhere from mid-September to early November. This will protect your outdoor furniture from harsh winter elements. As you won’t be using your daybeds during the winter months, you can avoid the buildup of dirt that can occur when the furniture is not in use. We recommend bringing your cushions inside as soon as the summer ends to avoid waterlogged fabrics.
